A Little Pizza and Some Country

Party Jamie!

When I first moved to NYC, I felt guilty about staying in on a Friday night. For some reason, I thought it was “uncool” to stay home on Friday nights if you were a 20-something living in the Big Apple. I felt like I always had to have my “party hat” ready to go. Well, two years later, that is definitely no longer the case….

My night tonight consisted of dinner and a movie…in the ‘ol apartment. It was a long week at work, and I was ready for some relaxin’ by way of a nice and easy dinner and a chick flick!

Dinner was a simple pizza made with a piece of flat bread, some bbq chicken (pre-grilled chicken coated in bbq sauce), pizza sauce and cheese. I topped it with lettuce because I like the extra freshness and crunch.

Sweet Home Nebraska

I was so excited to see that Country Strong was On Demand. I couldn’t recall whether the movie got good reviews, but I didn’t care because I knew it was centered around country music. AND country music reminds me of my hometown, Omaha, Nebraska.

THE GOOD LIFE!

No matter how much I love New York City, my heart belongs to good old Nebraska. I haven’t lived there in 10 years (went to college in Chicago and lived there for four years after) but the older I get the more I appreciate the place I grew up. I’m lucky enough to have my wonderful family and closest friends still living in Nebraska. So, I can go home whenever I want AND they always give me the warmest welcome, makin’ me feel sooo special ๐Ÿ™‚

SO much love back in the hometown

Omaha certainly isn’t like the towns they describe in those country music songs…although that is what most people here in the big city think. Yet, since moving here, that twangy country music is what I turn to whenever I want a taste of home. There’s something extremely gratifying about walking down the streets of New York City listening to some country music tunes (as I mentioned yesterday). It reminds me of how far I’ve come and at the same time, how much I’ve got back home.

Who knows? I may get back there one day. But, until then I’ve got the music to bring me back whenever I want ๐Ÿ™‚

Country Strong was way better than I expected. I judge the effectiveness of a chick flick by how many tears I’ve got going by the end. Definitely had to break out the kleenex. Which means two thumbs up on the Jamie scale of a solid movie.

While it’s been a low-key night, it’s been a busy week, and I am ready for bed. You can tell anyone you want that I’m 20-something New Yorker in bed by 10:30 on a Friday night. I am NOT ashamed ๐Ÿ™‚ Tomorrow, I’m hoping to run NYC…more on that later. Good night!

Question:

What music reminds you of home?
