Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down – Cake Pops For Breakfast?

Even though I didn’t get to sleep until late last night, due to a little “wallet mishap,” there was no way I could have a Monday frown on my face, because I saw these right when I entered the office:

So much better than Starbucks!

Yep, cake pops – homemade cake pops. One of our coworkers did some hardcore baking this weekend, and we were all very impressed. I grilled her on the recipe, but I still didn’t get quite how she did it. As we all sat around sampling the hip and delicious cake pops, someone made the ultimate compliment: “Wayyyy better than Starbucks.” Has anyone seen the cake pops at Starbucks? Well, apparently they’ve got nothin’ on the ones we enjoyed for breakfast 😉

In addition to the unexpected cake pop breakfast, here are some other reasons I’m turning the Monday frown upside down:

  • Spaghetti Squash is Going Mainstream!: I learned via Hungry Girl, that chain restaurant, Ruby Tuesday, will now have the spag squash on the dinner menu under “pasta dishes.” Clearly, they have been reading my blog and drew inspiration from my baked spaghetti squash ;-). I kind of already loved Ruby for the giant salad bar, but now I have another reason to make a pitstop there when I’m back Nebraska 🙂
  • Marathon Monday: Even from NYC, I can feel the excitement in the air: It’s Boston Marathon Monday! So excited to devour race recaps from all of my fave running bloggers (SkinnyRunner, Runners Cookie I’m talkin to you!)! I’ve been receiving tweet updates from Runner’s World all day which has allowed me to continue my work while keeping up with the marathon. Congrats to the winners!

The winner is...

  • New Toys: Am I the only person whose day can be improved by a $5 cup? I got this Copco cup from Bed, Bath and Beyond on sale last week. Since them, I’ve looked forward to trying to meet my daily intake of water more than ever (what can I say? I’m low-maintenance)

Pink cups make me smile

  • Short Week!: My week is already almost over in my book, since I’m taking off half the day on Thursday and all day Friday to head to Texas for my friend, Suji’s wedding. If the engagement party from earlier this summer is any indication, pretty sure it’s going to be quite the good time.

And this was just the engagement party...

I’d feel guilty bragging but I’m sure some of you have got holiday plans!

AND finally, all this running talk inspired me to take the plunge: I’m talking about the New York Marathon lottery plunge. YEP! If luck goes my way, I’ll be running in this year’s ING NYC Marathon. FINGERS CROSSED!

Hopefully this will be the first lottery I win 🙂

Apparently, the lottery favors out-of-towners, so chances are, I won’t make it. But, if I get the marathon bug, I may just decide to run with a charity, which will guarantee my entry. Stay tuned!

Question:

What’s the craziest thing you’ve done so far on this Manic Monday?

You should pretend you still live in Nebraska to better your chances 🙂

  2. Cake pops? Yes please!
I read about the spaghetti squash at Ruby Tuesday’s too! That’s one of my favorite go-to chain restaurants (I love the salad bar) and will be trying one of the new options next time I go
Good luck with the lottery for the marathon! Ya never know, you could be one of the lucky townies that is chosen 🙂
I didn’t do anything too crazy today….quite a boring day as a matter of fact! But relaxing at least
