This just in: Heidi Klum gets an average of 10 hours of sleep per night, according to People mag. I had two questions when I read this story: 1) Is that her secret; 2) HOW does she find the time to sleep 10 hours?
Well, if that’s what it takes to be a supermodel, guess I’ll have to rethink my career aspirations 😉 Maybe I should be a model for Shake Weights instead?
But in all seriousness, how does a woman with four children, a modeling career, a tv show and countless other ventures, have time to sleep 10 hours a night? The article, in this week’s issue, was actually about the amount of “beauty sleep” stars get. I felt better when I saw that Drew Barrymore only gets 3 hours and the beautiful Jessica Biel claims she’s nearly an insomniac (maybe she’s missing Justin?). Best of all, Ryan Reyonds said, “I think about all the blinking I’ve done during the day and try to add it up in my mind.” Well, Ryan, for someone who lacks in the sleep department, you sure look pretty good 😉
Sleepwalking through My Morning Routine…
And speaking of sleep, I have gotten a lot less of it lately!
As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve had a few late nights these past few weeks. Last night was another night of burning the midnight oil, so let’s just say I didn’t exactly wake up all bright-eyed and bushy tailed.
BUT, I did manage to squeeze out half of my workout for the day (30 minutes on the elliptical and quickie abs). As you can see, it was quite the struggle (photo taken mid-crunch):
Next, with my eyes still barely open, I threw together a lunch inspired by last night’s Kitchen Sink Salad. Oh and I managed to burn an English Muffin for breakfast
Lunch today consisted of left-over Hawaiian Stylin’ Salad, Blueberry Chobani, some veggies and some hard-boiled eggs (I boiled them all by myself – so talented in the kitchen).
Finally got the English Muffin right but had to bag the poor little muffin sandwich, in order to make it to work on time
Jelly/Cheese combo inspired by PB Fingers Bagelwich 🙂 Thanks Julie!
Then, it was time for me to grab my giant bags (I am SO the bag lady on the subway) and get on my “merry” way. I needed a little pick-me-up so I chose the Glee radio station on Pandora for my AM commute.
Since I was running late, I didn’t have time to grab coffee. And dealing with Grand Central station’s “people traffic” during rush hour without any caffeine is quite the obstacle:
This picture doesn’t really capture any of it. I was too scared to stand still in the middle of everything to take a picture! Sometimes I listen to “Eye of the Tiger” on my iPod when I walk through here and claw my way through the mess of aggressive New Yorkers…I may be a sweet girl from Nebraska, but I don’t mess around on the commute, especially without coffee ;-).
Sometimes Healthy, Sometimes Sleepy
I think a big part of being healthy is being well-rested. Yet, here in NYC, I know few people that get more than 6 hours a night! I myself sometimes struggle to get by on 5 hours :-(. I know it’s not healthy, but this is a Sometimes Healthy blog after all. PLUS, I wouldn’t be able to compose these brilliant posts if I slept more ;-).
I’m always curious about how much sleep you other bloggers get. I know some of you wake up even earlier than I do. How do you get yourselves to sleep at a decent hour? I don’t know how to turn my brain off before 10:00 pm! However, I’m working on getting more sleep and being more efficient. It’s a process people!
Well, as expected, I ate my entire lunch before noon. Oooops. This is why I never pack my lunch. The good news is that I’ve had my coffee, and I’m no longer sleep walking. Heidi Klum, watch out! Back to work! PS – I filled the candy dish finally. My coworkers are oh so happy!
Question:
How many hours of sleep do you get on average? Are you often tired? Any sleep secrets?
Oh man…I did my 9 mile run yesterday…in 90 degree heat and it totally wore me out.
I was in bed at 10 pm and asleep by 10:02 am. I woke up at 7:05.
That’s 9 hours of sleep. Holy heck!
I have sleep-envy 😉 haha Way to go on the run! Heat is tough!!!
oh how i miss that candy dish! glad to know you’ve continued the tradition without my candy-addict hands around to steal it all 🙂 as you know, me and sleep aren’t always friends, but i function best with 7-8 hours of rest. my biggest secrets: doing ten minutes of yoga and listening to my sleepy playlist before bedtime!
Hello Whit! Thanks so much for reading 🙂 I will always always be the candy dish girl. Some people want to buy the world a Coke, I wanna buy the world a giant hershey kiss ;-). Everything’s better with chocolate. I am so getting sleep tonight. About to leave work, finish my workout and then cook up a nice breakfast for dinner. Yipeee! I might try yoga before bed. Nice tip!
Oh I am so calling Heidi Klum’s bluff! That is impossible, I tell you. She’s just a freak of nature that can pop out a million kids and still look perfect. I usually try to get about 8 hours per night, and that involves going to sleep at grandma hour (9 or 9:30 p.m.) so I can wake up for morning runs. It’s worth it though!
PS thanks for that pic of Ryan Reynolds… 🙂
That’s awesome you were still able to get a workout in despite the lack of sleep!
I get about 8.5-9.5 hours of sleep per night! I really don’t function well on less than that, aka I tend to pass out during my classes the next day- not so efficient for learning 😉
I go to sleep around 9:45 and wake up at 7:00 most days of the week. It’s safe to say I do not follow the normal college student’s sleeping habits!
you are right this post was awesome I like this post.We provide more service wholesale screen printing and

I usually get 7 or 8 hours a night. My sleep is really important to me! If I get less than that I just feel blah and zapped of energy all day!
