Theme Song Thursdays AND my First Giveaway!

Hello to all the new readers of the Sometimes Healthy Living blog! I’ve seen a lot of you since yesterday’s guest post on “I’m an Okie.” Thanks for stopping by! Sit down and stay awhile…pretty please 😉

Happy Music = Healthy Living?

Believe it or not, I think a huge part of “healthy living” is music. As I mentioned last week, sometimes all it takes is one good tune, and this Sometimes Healthy Girl’s mood can go from zero to hero in 60 seconds. That doesn’t mean that someone who doesn’t listen to music isn’t healthy. It also doesn’t mean that in order to be healthy, one should walk around all day humming the theme song from Barney. It just means that music can take us all to a “happy place” and happy = healthy.

Additionally, a couple weeks ago, I posted about Zooey Deschanel’s statement in SELF magazine that everyone needs a life theme song. I thoroughly enjoyed the comments from that post about your life theme songs, as well as comments from last week’s post. So that’s why, moving forward I’m instituting a Thursday Theme Song day, where I share a song that either describes my day OR puts me in a good mood.

Today’s Theme Song: What a Feeling!

Today’s theme song brings us back to the 80’s – a time when being cheesey, wearing scrunchies and sporting leg warmers was cool. Some of you Sometimes Healthy readers were probably little babies when this song was a hit and some of you may not have been born. In fact, this Sometimes Healthy Girl was born the year it came out.

So allow me to introduce you (although most of you are probably familiar) to the theme song from the 80’s movie sensation Flashdance: What a Feeling

I cannot listen to this song without jumping up and dancing around or at the very least, tapping my toes very vigorously in my little cubicle (yes, I’m doing it right now). The movie is pretty good too, but the song takes the cake for this Sometimes Healthy Girl.

Feelin’ Good

“What a Feeling” certainly qualifies as a feel-good song, but it also describes the way I’ve been feeling these past 24 hours. As mentioned above, yesterday, I had the pleasure of guest posting for one of my favorite bloggers, Lisa aka “I’m an Okie.” I felt so honored when she asked me, and ever since I wrote it a week ago, I couldn’t wait for it to post. Not only because I admire Lisa’s blog so much, but also because the topic was near and dear to my little heart.

As you might have guess from my clearly professional photoshopping skills, the topic was my upcoming 10 Year High School Reunion (3 weeks!). I discussed my awkward high school years and how my confidence has grown since then. If you haven’t read it, I highly suggest you check it out, if only for the endearingly awkward pics of this Sometimes Healthy Girl.

Between this fun post about the high school years, my new readers and some recent exciting changes at work, it dawned on me early this morning that right now, I just feel GOOD. So, then, I listened to “What a Feeling” on my iPod about five times and decided to declare it today’s theme song :-).

Ultimately, I’ve learned these past couple months since starting my blog that “success” is a relative term. My vision of what “success” means has changed drastically since I moved to New York City over two years ago. It cannot be defined by numbers, recognition or even relationships – it’s just a feeling. And “What a Feeling” it is!

As frequent readers of my blog know, I am not afraid to admit when life gets crazy, I get a bit stressed and consume 3 cans of Reddi Whip in one sitting (exageration, new readers).  But, for now, I’m going to continue to enjoy my feeling of success :-). I hope you too will take some time to watch the video, rock out to the song and pat yourself on the back for all of YOUR success.

I just started following you yesterday on Twitter 🙂 My theme song today is “Just Keep Swimming” by Dory.. which actually isn’t a song….. it’s a tune a silly fish sings on Nemo… so my second theme song will be…. “All I do is Win” 🙂 because it’s stuck in my head!!

A song that is a definite ‘feel-gooder’ is “Defying Gravity” from the wicked soundtrack. Clearly it’s embarassing to admit that what motivates me to run faster and is an instant pick me up is a Broadway Show tune, but hey if it’s what works … stick with it! Some of the ’empowering’ lyrics include…”Something has changed within me – Something is not the same – I’m through with playing by the rules – Of someone else’s game – Too late for second-guessing – Too late to go back to sleep – It’s time to trust my instincts –
Close my eyes: and leap! ” Thanks for the give-away!
