A Big Announcement…

Oh hey everyone – just dropping by to share with you some news about a big decision I’ve recently made. I know I haven’t been the best at communicating lately, but I’m going to do my best to share these important milestones with you…on the off chance that you still care.

This news is sooooo big!

Anyway, as you know, my foot has been a source of quite a lot of drama pain since April. However, after some physical therapy, a few doctor’s appointments and some orthotics, my little foot is almost back to normal. Slowly but surely, I’ve been making my way back to the treadmill more and more (you can even track me on DailyMile!). I’m nowhere near the rock-star marathon-woman I was in March of last year, but I’m at least headed on the path to being some sort of runner again.

So, I’ve decided to do something that I’ve never done before. To be honest, It’s something I’ve never even considered…but I think with a bit of a training, I can make it happen.

This June, I plan on running in the Third Annual New York City Pizza Run.

Here’s the description:

he NYC Pizza Run is a challenge in which participants aim to complete a 2.25 mile run while stopping to eat three slices of pizza at checkpoints throughout the course. This one-of-a-kind New York City experience will take place in the historic Tompkins Square Park.

Phew, sounds like a challenge. Two miles might seem like a piece of pie (pun intended), but add on the required consumption of three large slices of New York Pizza, and BOOM, you’ve got yourself a challenge.

Here is how I plan to train for this epic race

Running:

I will continue to run on the treadmill every day, or every day that I get enough sleep to ensure I can actually run on said treadmill without falling off. Perhaps I will bring in some of my healthified goodies and consume them at every 3/4 of a mile, so that I will be adequately prepared to do so with pizza on the big race day!

Can you imagine the looks I’d get from fellow gym-goers if I brought some of these babies to the treadmill along with my giant coffee?

These will look nice next to my coffee on the treadmill....

Pizza-Eating

This one might be tough. I’m not sure I’ve ever consumed three piece of pizza in 25 minutes (or less). To prepare for the race, I will plan on having some speed-eating pizza practice sessions at various notable Manhattan pizza shops. I’ll have to time myself, because sometimes I’m a bit of a slow eater (unless I’m stressed, in which case, I turn into a hoovering hot mess).

I’ve been eating a lot of homemade pizza lately, so I may practice a bit from home as well.

Pizza Runner in Training - I'll eat this WHOLE PIE in 20 minutes - ohhh yeah.

It’s a BIG commitment, but I think I’m ready to take my running to the next level.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!

Oh, and by the way, I’ll also be running in the NYC 2012 Half Marathon:

I made it!

But, this is like my 3rd NYC Half…so that should be a piece of pie right?

Happy Friday everyone – please wish me luck in my new Pizza-Running Training!

Question:

What races are you running in 2012?

OMG I HAVE TO DO THIS! I live two blocks away from Tompkins Sq Park and I adore pizza…I think it’s meant to be. I was just talking to my mom about needing something to train for because I’m suffering from low workout motivation lately, and this may just be the ticket!

I’m currently wishing in lived in NYC, I’d be all over this, it sounds like a ton of fun!
Alas, I’m running the RnR DC Half Marathon Relay in March and The Pittsburgh Half Marathon in May (my first). I’m super nervous about training for it, I’m afraid that I won’t be prepared.

That race looks kind of insanely AWESOME! WIshing I had something similar nearby….all the best! No races planned for me so far in 2012…I’m not sure where running and I are at these days (other than my once or twice weekly runs for fun).
