Who Am I?
Hello and welcome to my world! If you’re coming here to read about someone who lives strictly by the culturally-established rules of healthy living, you’ve definitely come to the wrong place. Don’t get me wrong, by all standards, I live a relatively normal and healthy life: I run an average of at least 5 miles a day, eat copious amounts of fruits and vegetables and usually enjoy a glass of wine only about 1-2 times a week at the most…well, that’s what’s on the surface at least.
However, peel back a layer of that little healthy living onion, and you’ll surely find a number of rather UNhealthy habits. For starters, I have a near obsession of certain over-processed foods. These include (among other things): I Can’t Believe it’s Not Butter Spray (They should rename it “I Can’t Believe What You Can Pour This On”), Fat Free Reddi Whip (apparently, it’s all natural…I have my doubts) and Gerber Graduates Sweet Potato Puffs Cereal (don’t diss it ‘til you try it). Additionally, although I generally only drink 1 time a week at the most, that one time often lasts well into the night and leaves me out of commission for the entire next day. And finally, while I’ve been able to master the art of exercising consistently, I often sacrifice sleep and my social life to support this habit, and I generally complain that I am “SOooooooo tired” 7-8 times a day. Believe me, there is much more, but you get the point.
So Why Am I Blogging?
I got the idea for starting this blog after I immersed myself in the world of healthy living bloggers for months. I would read them on a daily basis, and for the most part, find inspiration through seeing how each of them lived their daily lives (PB Fingers = My Hero). But at times, I would think to myself, “Dammnit girl, get your s*** together like these chicks.” Thus my concept of sharing the imperfections was born. My number one reason for starting this blog is that my true passions lie in writing and healthy living. Here, I’m trying to marry them together. But given my track record for being hopelessly imperfect, I cannot promise the healthy part full time.
You might consider me a runner – I’ve run in 3 marathons, about a dozen half marathons and countless 10Ks. You might consider me a healthy eater. You might even think I know a thing or two about working out. I may even impress you with one of my crazy recipes. I will never claim to be an expert in any of these areas, but it is my hope that if you choose to read this blog you will always walk away with some useful information and a smile on your face.
No, but Seriously, WHO AM I?
I’m a 20-something New Yorker born in Chicago and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Yep, that’s right – I came all the way out here from OMAHA (not Oklahoma ya’ll). I moved to NYC in search of my dream writing job but ended up sticking it out at a PR firm instead. I enjoyed many adventures in NYC (much of those adventures were captured on this blog) but after a few years, I realized city livin’ just wasn’t in the cards for this country bumpkin. In October 2011, I met a dashing New Yorker all the way out in Las Vegas (more on that story another time), and he introduced me to a mystical fairytale world known as the Hudson Valley. I fell in love with this place that I sometimes refer to as Narnia, and thankfully, we fell in love too.
About a year and a half later, I accepted a job in Narnia and moved in with my dashing New Yorker. Overnight, I went from working 12 hours a day and living in a studio apartment to working the normal 9 to 5 and living in a house with a dog (BONUS). The move was exciting and scary all at the same time, but I couldn’t wait to embrace the country lifestyle and write about it all on my little blog.
This blog has been around since 2011, but I went on an extended hiatus when I actually gained a personal life. Now that my work life has quieted down, I’m committed to starting up my little blog again and writing about all of the things I love! I hope you’ll join me as I explore my new home and how to live a Sometimes Healthy Life.

“Get my Sh*t together” – that is ME.
Love this – I hate “perfection” – blah. I say “Live A Little” – eat the damn brownie. As long as you eat your fruits and veggies too, laugh and get some fresh air – then who’s counting!?
Not me
Just found you today through IowaGirlEats!! Love what I’m ready so far — no one can be healthy all the time! Where’s the fun in that?? Can’t wait to read more!!
Came across you via a comment on CNC. I like what I see and kudos on your full marathon! I just ran my first half and I don’t know if I am ready for a full one yet.

I’m so excited that I found your blog, I cannot wait to read more! I definitely agree that there’s no need to worry about living a perfectly healthy life. I think everyone has a few unhealthy habits, but if they make you happy who cares! I mean if you’re too strict al the time that’s no fun!
I just discovered you via the HLS blog list, and I love that you love I Can’t Believe it’s not Butter spray and fat-free Reddi-Whip as much as I do!
I’m a Canadian and I drive to the States for them!!!! I’m totally on board with your whole “philosophy”…feel like it’s much the same as my own…can’t wait to meet you at HLS!
Oh.My. You don’t have Reddi Whip and Butter Spray in Canada?? I’ve never had ANYTHING against Canada, but I’m tellin’ ya, this is a shocker! You must write to the companies and ask them to start distributing to wherever you live. No woman should have to live without these essentials
. Looking forward to meeting you too!
I just discovered your blog and I look forward to reading it!
Love it Jamie!!! I look forward to your next blog!
I was about to comment on I’m an Okie’s post and saw that you are a Northwestern Alum! Me too!
It’s nice to see some of us on here!
Hi Jaime! I just stumbled across your blog and I have to say your About Me is SUPER inspiring! I just started my own healthy(for the most part) living blog and It’s nice to know there are other healthy living bloggers who don’t find it a piece of cake to post every day. I love that you embrace your “imperfections.” Keep up the great work!
Wow that’s amazing how many miles you can run! I’m always impressed by people who run. My body would actually fall apart.
