Sweat, Ballpark Food and Pantry Raids

This weekend was jam-packed full of Sometimes Healthy activities that had me raring and ready to go to the gym on this dreary Monday morning. From a Yankees game and a wine filled pizza night to a six mile run in the mountains and a Girls on the Run 5K, it was the perfect balance of health and indulgence.

Friday, Sweat Day

One of my focuses on workouts this summer is diversifying and expanding my cardio workouts. I’ve always relied heavily on running, so I’m trying to mix in some functional workouts and other cardio machines. I was really in the mood to sweat Friday morning before a weekend of fun indulgences, so I threw together this circuit workout.

Cupcake Mondays – Stuff It!

My gym bag was literally the epitome of Sometimes Healthy Living this morning:

A Sometimes Healthy Gym Bag: Running Shoes, Cupcakes and...Frosting?

Yep, that would be homemade cupcakes (and a can of buttercream frosting) right next to my gym shoes. I toyed with the idea of carrying yet another bag, but I didn’t feel like enduring numerous eye rolls on the subway yet again as I smacked people unknowingly with my 50 million bags. Besides, the cupcakes fit so perfectly in the nook of my gym bag. And, promise they were covered very tightly.

Please don’t think I would ever  infuse my cupcakes with gym shoe flavor. That would be taking healthy living wayyy too far. And it would also be pretty gross. My coworkers would no longer L-U-V me. Continue Reading →

Go Ahead, Hit That Snooze Button: More Reasons to Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down

A much as I love laying out by the pool, drinking pretty margaritas and dancing up a storm, I am most certainly a creature of habit.

A Sometimes Healthy Girl can only drink so many margaritas before she gets stir crazy!

First thing’s first, click on the posts below: to read about parts of my unforgettable weekend in Texas:

I’m a “routine girl.” And after a few days of straying from my NY routine, I’m always ready to go back to the daily grind. So by Sunday morning, I was ready to “Get into the groove,” as Madonna says.

Back in the Game

I was very pleased to get into NYC early enough yesterday to ensure I could revert back to my routine this AM. Last night, in honor of Easter and to ensure I would get my week started off right, I prepped my new favorite breakfast: Egg Muffins! Continue Reading →

Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down – Cake Pops For Breakfast?

Even though I didn’t get to sleep until late last night, due to a little “wallet mishap,” there was no way I could have a Monday frown on my face, because I saw these right when I entered the office:

So much better than Starbucks!

Yep, cake pops – homemade cake pops. One of our coworkers did some hardcore baking this weekend, and we were all very impressed. I grilled her on the recipe, but I still didn’t get quite how she did it. As we all sat around sampling the hip and delicious cake pops, someone made the ultimate compliment: “Wayyyy better than Starbucks.” Has anyone seen the cake pops at Starbucks? Well, apparently they’ve got nothin’ on the ones we enjoyed for breakfast 😉

In addition to the unexpected cake pop breakfast, here are some other reasons I’m turning the Monday frown upside down: Continue Reading →

Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down: The 2nd Edition

The sun wasn’t exactly shining here in the big Apple this morning, but it was warm. I took advantage of the warm weather with a 6 mile jog in Central Park

Gotham City!

Don’t the clouds look kind of cool? I still can’t believe I get to run here every day. Followed the run with a delicious bowl of oatmeal. Sorry I didn’t take a picture – it was just two packets of instant oatmeal, apples and cinnamon. Plus I put it in a paper cup – didn’t think it would  be too interesting for anyone! I’ll try to make up for it with a new oatmeal recipe tomorrow morning. Stay tuned!

Now, on to reasons to turn that Monday frown upside down: Continue Reading →

Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down!

I’d say “Happy Monday” but that just feels so…wrong. Let’s face it, even if you’re lucky enough to have your dream job, Mondays are just plain daunting. If you’re reading my blog, you’re probably just like me (although probably not NEARLY as disorganized): your schedule during the week is absolutely packed and by Friday you’re completely wiped.

So I always try to start my week off with a nice lil morning workout and  a good breakfast. (Please note: This does not always happen) Continue Reading →
