The Birthday Menu Dream Team

Hopefully I will not have my face shoved into cake tomorrow...

This just in: It’s my birthday tomorrow. Oh, I’m sorry…did you not get the memo?

In case you didn’t get the hint from my post about “Vegging-Up” for the bday, as well as my post about the Saturday Pre-Birthday Fiesta, I turn 28 tomorrow. My father likes to joke that I celebrate my birthday for a week,  but that is not true. You see, I merely don’t have time for a formal Sometimes Healthy Celebration during the week(translation: the thought of arranging a party during the week stresses me out) , so I just have to get it all out of the way on the weekend. And, I just happen to be making a visit to dear ol’ Nebraska the weekend AFTER my birthday…which is why I’ll be celebrating twice…

Birthday Recap and the 4 Stages of a Sometimes Healthy Hangover

It's BIRTHDAY TIMEEEE

Well, as predicted, I was unable to write a proper post yesterday, as I spent the day reveling in my Sometimes Healthy Hangover and eating ridiculous amounts of fro yo and pretzels and cream cheese. Luckily, I did take lots of pictures of Saturday’s Birthday Fiesta to ensure that I’d be able to recap all of the fun with minimal words.

Fro Yo With a Smile

Who wouldn't want to run by this?

It was the perfect day for a run here in NYC.

Clear skies, hot temps (but not too hot), and low humidity. The kind of day where it feels like the entire city is out running, biking, walking around, shopping or day drinking. Yet, still, around 10:30, I found myself indoors performing my typical pre-run procrastination routine: SoapNet’s Breakfast in Bed (One Tree Hill and 90201 marathon), bowl(s) of cereal and some major cuddle time with the couch monster.

As enjoyable as it was, I felt a bit guilty wasting even a portion of such beautiful weather on the couch. Thankfully, my best friend, Michelle, called and asked me to meet her down on the Lower East Side track for a run and more importantly, some catch-up time. Michelle was in Europe for 10 days recently, so we had a lot to chat about. Continue reading

Barbeque Sauce Makes Everything Better

When your day starts off like this it’s probably not going to be a good day right??

A Flooded Sometimes Healthy Kitchen. Oh My

This picture would be my flooded Sometimes Healthy kitchen, and this little flood is the way I started off my Sunday. You may be asking yourself, “How did you manage this one Sometimes Healthy Girl?” Well, it’s actually quite simple. You see, I was so wrapped up in writing yesterday’s race recap, that I completely forgot I was running the water in my sink to soak my blender after the previous day’s smoothie fest. 15 minutes later, I looked back at the sink to find water and suds everywhere! The blender was blocking the drain! OOPSIES!

Do you get it now? This is why I refrain from cleaning. Bad things happen every time I give it a shot. Looking back, I’m strangely proud of this little flood. I don’t think many people could accomplish the feat of flooding a sink less than 2 feet away, but I managed! Gold star please? A little absent-minded? You bet ya! That’s me for better or for worse. To know me is to love me ;-) .

Anyway, needless to say, being the melodramatic person that I am, this little incident rocked my world just a bit. I knew only two people could turn this day around.

These two always cheer me up

Luckily, I was set to meet up with the brother and soon-to-be sister bear in just a couple of hours to have some fun at the annual Big Apple BBQ. Continue reading

Friendship and Frozen Hot Chocolate

Look at that smile!

As I mentioned on Thursday, my best friend, Emily, from Nebraska, was in town for a work trip. Believe it or not, I showed her more in NYC than just 16 Handles and PB & J Overnight Oats in a Jar. Although she was in town for only 3 days, we packed a lot into those three days. Here’s a recap:

Two Years Without Frozen Hot Chocolate

I’ve been in NYC for two years (plus a four month internship back in college), and I am ashamed to say I’ve never tried the infamous Serendipity frozen hot chocolate! It’s right around the corner from one of my favorite places in NYC, Dylan’s Candy Bar, but I’ve never gone inside because there is always a long wait. Well, Emily’s first night in NYC provided the perfect opportunity to sample this delectable goody!
