Which one of these little UNhealthy treats did this Sometimes Healthy Girl enjoy today?
A. Strawberry Pop-Tarts
B. Pretzels and Cream Cheese
C. Whipped Cream…out of the can?
If you guessed all of the above…you are correct. As a prize, I’ll ship you a month’s supply of pretzels, cream cheese and Reddi Whip (this is clearly a joke but if any of you are interested in this “prize” whatsoever then you should continue to read my blog because clearly we are soulmates).
I woke up a little bit sluggish today after staying up late on the worry train. Managed to squeeze in 30 minutes on the elliptical and some quick abs.Β Threw my hair in the NY Minute Bun and I was out the door in a flash. On my 12 minute walk to the subway, I relished my last minutes of calm before the beginning of what I knew was going to be a hectic day at work.
When I arrived, I was greeted by the leftovers from an office breakfast.
To some this is just a tray of half eaten bagels and some unappetizing cream cheese. But, I am the carb queen and I had to implement some major resistance skills to keep myself from grabbing the whole tray and running it over to my cube π
Instead, I ate some instant apples and cinnamon oatmeal alongside a venti iced coffee from Starbucks. Breakfast of champs? Breakfast of a busy Sometimes Healthy New Yorker?
From there, the day was a whirlwind of meetings and deadlines. Lunch came and went and eventually I was starving. Baaad news. My Always Healthy snack stash was wiped out…and I really didn’t feel like eating healthy at that moment. I was a little stressed and a little tired, and all I wanted was some comfort food…
Can you guess what I picked?
Pop-Tarts! I decided it was just a Pop-Tart kind of day :-). I don’t think I’ve had these little treasures in 15 years, so I was pretty excited to give them a try. I must say, they were not as delicious as I remembered! Then again, my favorite flavor back in the day was Smores. Maybe ol’ Strawberry just couldn’t cut it…Or maybe my taste buds have matured?!
Doubtful, seeing as my next snack of the day was my favorite combination: pretzels and cream cheese. I even got my co-worker to join in on the fun!
She was shocked at how much she enjoyed this unique “pairing.” At around this time, it was 6:00 and everyone was suffering from a major case of Β “It is beautiful outside, but I’m stuck at my computer” fever. So my pretzels and cream cheese were the talk of my cube row. So was the Reddi Whip.
We all had a good laugh and I took the opportunity to take a flash poll. I asked the ladies in my work corner whether or not they would eat the whole bag of pretzels featured above in one sitting (7 servings). All took one look at the bag, and without hesitation, said “Yes!” It made me feel slightly better to know I’m not alone in the ‘ol portion control battle!
Walk It Off
By the time I left work today, it was almost 8:00! And after over 10 hours indoors, I wanted to enjoy the outdoors. I would have loved to squeeze in an evening run, but the energy just wasn’t there. So I walked the 45 minutes home…
It was a beautiful night in the Big Apple! A comfortable 65 degrees with not a cloud or breeze in the air. I listened to my Rascal Flatts Pandora Station and soaked in the city atmosphere. It’s unbelievable that no matter how busy this city gets, sometimes it feels so peaceful π
These people were so cute, they made me smile. I just had to get a pic. Typical NYC though: adorable little girl, puppies, tulips, and too many bags of trash! π
Comfort Food Revisited
When I got home, I was still in comfort food mode, but after a long day at work, my decision-making skills were out of whack! So I whipped up something that combined TWO of my favorite comfort foods: A Cheeseburger Quesadilla
Cook up some lean turkey meat
Layer it onto a whole wheat tortilla, along with cheese, mushrooms and tomatoes. Oh and mustard and ketchup (don’t judge – it’s supposed to be a burger!)
Throw it into a Foreman grill and cook for 10 minutes.
Voila! I can assure you that it looked even better than it tasted! The flavors all combined together to remind me of healthier versions of both dishes. The ketchup may have looked somewhat disgusting but it took this comfort dish to another level. Mission accomplished!
So what is a Pop-Tart Day?
It’s one of those days when a Sometimes Healthy Girl gets a little off track making a few very UNhealthy choices. Health and fitness are two of my passions, and I always KNOW HOW to make the right decisions. I know how to ensure I always have healthy foods on reserve for busy day and that I probably shouldn’t keep my own can of whipped cream in the work refrigerator. It’s just a question of whether I want to or not π But, at the end of the day, the point is, I’m human. I’m going to skip my runs sometimes, indulge in weird foods and apparently eat whipped cream straight out of the can. That’s just who I am. And here’s another principle I live by: As long as you can laugh at yourself, you’ll never cease to be amused.” I laughed at myself a lot today, and it turned out to be a pretty good day π
Friday Flawday tomorrow!
Question:
What’s your favorite childhood comfort food? Does it still taste the same?
Poptarts used to be among my favorite childhood foods too! The blueberry was my favorite flavor, and it still tastes amazing π I also like Yodels and Ringdings dipped in cool whip…. sooo soo good. I’m surprised I was not obese as a child!
haha same with me. I was such a bad little eater as a child. Sometimes it’s nice to relive the good ol’ days π
Your cheeseburger quesidilla looks amazingggggggggg.
And my logic is if it fits in ONE bag, its a serving size. oops
hahahaha I absolutely love your logic π

Love the chesseburger quesadilla idea! Do you think I can get my boyfriend hooked and rid my seld of the temptation of eating real cheeseburgers? I swear I would have never been tempted before we started dating!
haha most definitely oh loyal blog reader. It is mucho important not to forget the condiments though. Remember, you can always healthify your burgers. Make them at home on a Foreman grill with lean turkey meat. Add some fresh veggies, good cheese and a whole grain bun and BOOM healthy burger π Hope your boyfriend likes it. Please tell him he’s welcome to read my blog for recipes π
