Sometimes when I get sick, I start to feel a bit sorry for myself. Apparently my weakened immune system weakens my generally positive resolve. I usually sprawl out on the couch, watch sappy love stories and make a dent in my box of Kleenex. Granted, I realize I’m not required to be productive on a sick day, but I do think I could work a little harder to avoid self pity. So today, I got all the rest that I needed, but I also made an effort to keep up my spirits…
Chicken Soup for a Sometimes Healthy Soul
Here’s how a Sometimes Healthy Girl keeps it positive while feeling under the weather….
She steps outside for a moment on a beautiful day to smell the roses…
She remembers that Barnes and Noble is right around the corner so she goes out to get a feel-good book for inspiration:
CONGRATS TINA! The book is incredible π
Then she reads for a while in bed before taking a looong nap.
Next up, she reads a few blogs. PB Fingers’ smoothies look like just the cure for her sick day blues. But it’s just a little too much work for this sick girl. But again, thankfully, this is NYC and Jamba Juice is right around the corner.
As day turns into night, she forgoes reality tv and sappy movies for an inspirational flick.
Yes, I consider Morning Glory to be a motivating film…Rachel McAdams’ character seems a lot like me π (in my opinion). And I love how she achieves all of her professional goals, despite a lot of adversity! I ignore reviews- I thought this was a great film π
And finally, she turns to classic comfort food before calling it a night:
I feel well-rested, refreshed and ready to attack the rest of the week :-). Sometimes, a sick day is just what a Sometimes Healthy Girl needs!
Question:
What are you favorite sick-time remedies?
It sounds like you had a nice feel better day. Soup is always in the picture for me and lots and lots of sleep.
Jamba juice always makes me feel better! I love juice, soup, crackers, and netflix marathons when I’m sick.
That looks like a perfect way to spend a sick day and recover! I’m totally with you on the fresh air, smoothie, TV and reading.
I used to eat Campbell’s chicken noodle soup all the time when I was younger. Nowadays I crave two eggs with cheese, ketchup, and sprouted grain bread when I’m not feeling well.
Hope you feel better soon! π
Although totally self-serving and pointless, sometimes I like to feel at least a little sorry for myself – it helps me to justify my prima-donna sick LauraJayne ways!
I always watch HGTV or seasons of Project Runway when I’m sick – but also when I’m not sick and want to relax! They are my favorite downtime activities!
mmm…Chicken Noodle Soup is so good. Grilled cheese is always good…or simple a bowl of cereal does the trick for me as well.
