WIAW: Ramen Noodles and the Bachelorette

Disclaimer: This Wednesday’s eats may not be the most exciting food you’ve ever seen. Hey, I wasn’t even that excited to eat the food (except the ice cream…ice cream always excites me).

I happened to tune into the Bachelorette last night (I know, I’m a day late) while eating my ice cream, and, for once in the franchise’s history, I actually thought it was the “most dramatic episode ever” (finally got it right, Chris Harrison!).

The most dramatic.episode.ever.

The most dramatic.episode.ever.

I always wonder how much I have in common with my loyal SHLB readers, and something tells me one thing that most of us share is a love for cheesy reality television.

So, let’s talk food. Then, let’s have some deep thoughts on The Bachelorette.

Breakfast yesterday was a cheesy egg white wrap. I used Flatout Wraps as the base and topped with generous amounts off eggs n’ cheese.

Mmm. mmm. good.

Mmm. mmm. good.

It was definitely a filling way to start my day!

The weather has been cooler in the Hudson Valley, so I dropped the pup off at daycare, instead of going for our daily run. We like to take him to daycare once a week, so that he gets in a little socialization and play time with other doggies!

After I dropped him off, I knocked off a low impact elliptical workout and finished at the gym with these arms and leg workouts from FitFabCities.com. In terms of workouts, this blog is my absolute favorite!

After the workout, it was off to Starbucks to make a dent in some of my work. I spent lunch at Starbucks, so I noshed on a few different things to call it a lunch (and of course my typical Passion Iced Tea).

A Morning Bun and Protein Plate:

Never fails me!

Never fails me!

And…

Swedish Fish:

Can't stop.won't stop.

Can’t stop.won’t stop.

What can I say? I can’t get enough of these babies. As a health-conscious person, I realize that there is no nutritional value in these things, but sometimes, I need the sugar to keep my brain working!

I didn’t have too many snacks yesterday, but late in the afternoon, I enjoyed some Pretzel Goldfish with a wedge of Laughing Cow Swiss Cheese (solid combo).

Thanks for the adorable cheese plate, Michelle!

For dinner, the BF and I weren’t in the mood to fuss, so he offered to pick up Chinese food. I prefer to make all of our meals during the week, because there is something very satisfying about cooking up a healthy and filling meal for the two of us every night. But, we were both wiped, so I gave in to the Chinese food offer.

I ordered vegetable ramen noodle soup, and we shared some steamed chicken dumplings.

Sometime you just need a little ramen!

Sometime you just need a little ramen!

I usually order mixed vegetables with tofu, but ramen sounded like a nice, comforting selection. It was spicy, but delicious and a nice change of pace.

And finally, I ended the night with a Sometimes Healthy Ice Cream Sundae:

Can't go wrong with sprinkles!

Can’t go wrong with sprinkles!

Vanilla ice cream, sprinkles, whipped cream and the peach-raspberry filling from Sunday night’s dessert.

Reality on Reality TV

So, that does it for my eats…a bit unremarkable, I know. However, the most exciting part of my day was the two hours that I sat on the couch and watched the Bachelorette.

I have no shame in admitting these things to you, dear readers. I’m all about honesty.

Personally, I, along with the rest of the country found this season incredibly boring. I usually multi-task while I watch the show, but yesterday, I was riveted! Finally, something “real” on reality tv.

Cannot stop watching this train wreck.

Cannot stop watching this train wreck.

I’m going to assume if you’re a fan of the show, you’ve seen the episode by now. So, I’ll give a quick spoiler recap:

Des goes on dates with the final three guys in Antigua. Two are madly in love with her, and one even goes so far as to say he would get down on one knee “right now.” Brooks, the final date, heads home to consult with his family before going to Antigua. He likes Des a lot, but is not “in love” with her the way he thinks he is supposed to be by now. After an awkward convo with Chris Harrison, Brooks dumps Des…for 45 minutes. She then tells him that he was the one she wanted all along. To be continued.

I was fascinated by the women on Twitter and Facebook who were bashing Brooks for dumping her. After all, it’s not SUPPOSED to happen this way. But, in my opinion, this is one of the first times I’ve actually witnessed reality on this television show. These people know each other for less than 2 months, and by the end, they are supposed to be ready to commit to forever. That’s not normal. It’s manufactured love that rarely lasts. I’m a total hopeless romantic, so I always want it to work out, but every time they fade into the sunset after the proposal each season, I think in my head, “So, how long will these two last?”

Alright Sean and Catherine...when are you going to call it quits?

Alright Sean and Catherine…when are you going to call it quits?

Brooks sensibly realized he wasn’t ready to propose to this woman after a couple of months, and he didn’t know what to do. He seemed to feel ashamed of not reaching that point, but his feelings were actually very normal. I know many men who have gotten a little case of cold feet after two or three years. Can you imagine the feeling after a couple of months? If those two had met in the “real world,” they’d probably still be dating and in the honeymoon phase.

Don't despair, Brooks. You still look like a model.

It was heartbreaking watching Desiree cry and Brooks stand there awkwardly trying to soothe her. But, it also felt very real and relatable. It was the first time I’ve ever related to this show, in fact. We’ve all fallen hard for the guy that’s “just not that into us.”

Come on guys, you can make this work.

Come on guys, you can make this work.

Brooks did the right thing, but I’m fairly certain, from the way he bawled like a baby after the breakup, that we’re not done with him. I hope they get back together, but I hope he sticks to his grounds and doesn’t propose. He’s not ready, and that’s completely fine. They should date like real people and take it from there.

So, let’s have a discussion. Tell me YOUR thoughts on this episode of The Bachelorette! Do you hate Brooks? Do you think he’s right?

8 Thoughts on “WIAW: Ramen Noodles and the Bachelorette

  1. Don’t you love using Flat Out wraps to make breakfast burritos? Those are the best!

  2. I don’t hate Brooks- I was def sad for Des, but he did the right thing. It would’ve just ended up like almost every other couple in Bachelor history where they just break up. He did seem genuinely torn up about it, but knew it had to be done. Oh, and I agree that this is the most boring season. Des says the same things over and over again. Oh, your night was amazing? Really? I didn’t hear that yesterday!!!!

    • I was SO happy with how it ended. I really thought Brooks would come back. I’m happy for her – she picked the right one 🙂

  3. I think it’s odd that Des thinks she can assume Brooks knows how she is feeling if she does indeed make out with every single guy there. It’s my juicy outlet but I am quite skeptical of someone finding love in that scenario / so many people and so little time.

    • Oh me neither…but each season I can’t help but hope. I think Des and Chris are super cute and I wish the best for them!

Ahhh I wish we had starbucks on every corner here like you guys do! Heck, I wish we had a chain coffee shop that allowed you to go camp in with a laptop/books and have wifi.

A good balance of eats there, I love the goldfish and cheese! I brought my sister back a package of multicoloured ones when I returned from there. She thought it was leggo. fml.
