Go Ahead, Hit That Snooze Button: More Reasons to Turn that Monday Frown Upside Down

A much as I love laying out by the pool, drinking pretty margaritas and dancing up a storm, I am most certainly a creature of habit.

A Sometimes Healthy Girl can only drink so many margaritas before she gets stir crazy!

First thing’s first, click on the posts below: to read about parts of my unforgettable weekend in Texas:

I’m a “routine girl.” And after a few days of straying from my NY routine, I’m always ready to go back to the daily grind. So by Sunday morning, I was ready to “Get into the groove,” as Madonna says.

Back in the Game

I was very pleased to get into NYC early enough yesterday to ensure I could revert back to my routine this AM. Last night, in honor of Easter and to ensure I would get my week started off right, I prepped my new favorite breakfast: Egg Muffins! Continue Reading →

Recap: Indian Wedding Extravaganza Part 1

Oh where to start? So much food, fun and festivity to discuss! I didn’t quite know what to expect from Suji’s wedding. She’s second generation Indian, and so is her now husband. However, when were in college together, I never realized her culture was such a huge part of her identity.

So many pretty saris!

I expected the wedding to be infused with Indian tradition, but didn’t realize it would be the other way around: “ballywood” with a hint of American ;-). In fact, by not wearing a sari, I was in the minority! The sight of all of the different saris and glamorous jewelry was truly breathtaking and of course, the bride herself stole the show! There were two different celebrations: the wedding night and the groom’s reception the next night. I’m going to dedicate two whole posts to these recaps!

Day 1 – The Wedding

We arrived at the Chateau around 3:00 and sipped on pina coladas while we waited for the ceremony to start. The venue was the perfect location for a wedding. Continue Reading →

An Indian Wedding to Rival the Royal Wedding

Last night was one of the most amazing weddings I’ve ever been to in my life! William and Kate watch out! Your wedding will be nothing compared to the wedding I was lucky enough to attend last night. It’s truly special to experience another culture’s traditions, especially through weddings. The entire evening was magical – from the colorful saris (dresses), to the modern Indian music,  to the traditional ceremony and the surprising fireworks display to cap off the night. I’m going to give a recap tomorrow when I have the time, but for now, I’m running late, getting ready for ANOTHER reception (these people know how to PARTY!). So much celebration this weekend, but at the center of it all really was something simple: love. Even though I haven’t met my Prince Charming yet, I absolutely love weddings. Who wouldn’t enjoy love , laughter, dancing and open bars?!  I know “someday my prince will come” (hehe), but right now, I’m going to enjoy watching my some of my closest friends say forever :-).

Alas, Cinderella is late for the ball AGAIN. Here’s some pics to preview before the big recap!

Living in a Texan Paradise

So much grass for this NYC girl!

I’ve heard the phrase “Don’t Mess with Texas,” and I certainly won’t. Because, I HEART TEXAS :-). Since I arrived here, everyone, from the people at the airport to the cab driver (who put a movie on for me!), to the people in the hotel have been beyond nice. Must be that Southern Hospitality. A girl could get used to this ;-).

Ah, but the star of the show thus far is the hotel. Here is how a hotel makes a Sometimes Healthy Girl extremely happy:

  • A beautiful fully equipped 24 hour gym (CHECK!)
  • A delicious FREE breakfast buffet (CHECK CHECK!)
  • A giant pool, waterfall is always a nice touch (CHECK CHECK CHECK!)
  • Sprawling hotel grounds perfect for jogging and walking outside (CHECK CHECK CHECK CHECK!)
Yep, this hotel has it all! I’m having the greatest time, and I haven’t even participated in the celebration  yet!

Here’s a recap of my heavenly day so far in a Texan paradise. Continue Reading →

Sometimes Healthy Gone to Texas

Yehaw, Sometimes Healthy (dressed as Daisy) is headed to Texas.

This is NOT what I'm wearing on the plane...

Airport bars beware. Passengers be ready. Texas here I come!

Goodbye NYC

I HEART NYC so much that I hate to leave it, even for 3 days. So of course I went on one last run in my beloved Central Park Even though I was lacking sleep due to being up late worrying about my flight, I made it through. Enjoy the pics!

Good morning Empire State!

so pretttty

magical fairytale land!

tired but all finished 🙂

I hope to blog while I’m in Texas so you can hear all about the beautiful Indian wedding, all of the great food and of course the festivities. Texas here I come!

How a Sometimes Healthy/Always Nervous Flyer Preps for Vacay

Tomorrow I leave for the great state of Texas to see my good friend from college, Suji, get hitched.

College Friends! Suji, bride to be is second from the right

I am extremely excited to reunite with college friends, eat amazing food, bask in the hot Texan sun and most importantly witness some incredibly cool cultural traditions. Suji is Indian, as is her future husband, so I know the wedding will incorporate some of their Indian culture.

The engagement party was a blast!

I AM NOT excited to sit in a giant tin can for 4 hours 30,000 feet in the air. As I have explained several times, I am a very nervous flyer.

Sad face doesn't happen very often...

Nonetheless I had to push my tiny little flying fear for the back of my mind to get ready for my Texas adventure.

Lunch Envy and the Trainer Tune Up

Lunch Envy [luhnch] [en-vee]

noun

A feeling of covetousness, longing and admiration with regards to your co-worker’s mid-day meal

“Lunch envy” was rampant here in the office today. Word got out about my Around the World Egg Muffins and no fuss sweet potato hash browns and everyone wanted a taste. Apparently 17 muffins wasn’t enough 😉

Delicious leftovers served on a beautiful paper plate

While they tasted delish all warm and steamy last night, I must say I prefer them cold. The flavors really set in overnight, especially with the Mexicali. Yummy! The Denver Muffin even tasted better today. I nibbled on the sweet potato hash browns all morning but still left a few for lunch. Again, these were even better today, because I could really taste that cinnamon and sugar. I really think that Egg Muffins may surpass pizza as best-tasting cold leftovers 😉

The Morning Tune-Up

This morning I switched it up a bit and met with a trainer at my gym for a little “tune-up.” Obviously, as a New Yorker who works in PR, I cannot afford to go to a trainer very often. Continue Reading →

Around the World in 20 Eggs! Breakfast for Dinna

Do you ever read something in a magazine while you’re working out, remind yourself to remember it and completely forget it the minute you walk out of the gym? When I saw these beauties in this month’s SELF mag, I just HAD to make them….

Straight from the magazine pages. The printed word lives on! 🙂

Then I forgot….

Then these oh so trendy Egg Muffins popped up again on Lisa and Jamie‘s blog…and I knew it was meant to be. So I went out and bought a random mix of ingredients to make my egg sensations…because I have no idea how to focus on a list in grocery stores…

How could anyone possibly make all of these ingredients work together?

Then I had a busy Sunday which left me with no time to devote to cooking, cleaning or even writing (almost). I intended to make the Egg Muffins on Monday but alas, I was too tired, and as you know, resorted back to the Kitchen Sink Salad.

FINALLY, today, inspiration came to me around 5:30 right before I left work. Not only would I make my Egg Muffins, but I’d make a variety of them, each dedicated to different countries! Continue Reading →

Sleeping More than Ryan Reynolds…

It is normal to play with Shake Weights in the office...

This just in: Heidi Klum gets an average of 10 hours of sleep per night, according to People mag. I had two questions when I read this story: 1) Is that her secret; 2) HOW does she find the time to sleep 10 hours?

Well, if that’s what it takes to be a supermodel,  guess I’ll have to rethink my career aspirations 😉 Maybe I should be a model for Shake Weights instead?

But in all seriousness, how does a woman with four children, a modeling career, a tv show and countless other ventures, have time to sleep 10 hours a night? The article, in this week’s issue, was actually about the amount of “beauty sleep” stars get. I felt better when I saw that Drew Barrymore only gets 3 hours and the beautiful Jessica Biel claims she’s nearly an insomniac (maybe she’s missing Justin?). Best of all, Ryan Reyonds said, “I think about all the blinking I’ve done during the day and try to add it up in my mind.” Well, Ryan, for someone who lacks in the sleep department, you sure look pretty good 😉

Do all non-sleepers look this good? Is there a club I can join? Source

Sleepwalking through My Morning Routine…

And speaking of sleep, I have gotten a lot less of it lately!

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve had a few late nights these past few weeks. Last night was another night of burning the midnight oil, so let’s just say I didn’t exactly wake up all bright-eyed and bushy tailed. Continue Reading →

Takin it to the Tropics…Kitchen Sink Salad Style

Another Monday, Another plan astray! I had such a great meal planned for tonight, but by the time I finished work and put in my 7 miles at the gym, it was too late and I was just too tired to put some major time into dinner. THUS, another Kitchen Sink Salad was born…I think I may just need to rename it the Monday Night New Yorker’s Kitchen Sink Salad. I believe this is the third week in a row.

First we had the Fiesta, then the Thanksgiving Style and now…. Continue Reading →
