Happy Saturday! Are you procrastinating like me right now? Over the past few months of marathon training, I developed a reliable Saturday routine. I would wake up by 7 or 8, think about my long run, stress about my messy apartment and relocate to the couch. From there, I’d spend 2-4 hours devouring a giant breakfast (convincing myself it was fuel for my run) and watching SoapNet’s 90210/One Tree Hill Breakfast in Bed. Next, I’d either walk around the block to Dunkin Donuts or put on a pot of coffee to give me a little caffeine boost. Finally, at around 2:00, I’d head out for my long run.
(Don’t want to read the rest of the post? I understand…it is Saturday after all, click here to link to the marathon playlist in iTunes…maybe read the rest of the post while you download?)
This routine is more or less harmless, and I realize there is absolutely nothing wrong with lounging around on a Saturday. However, the real reason I was sitting on my couch watch repeat episodes of the cheesiest shows ever created was that I was secretly worried about my long run. I was afraid I’d get to Central Park and not have the goods to complete my required mileage. Yet, each time, I’d get out the door, turn on the killer playlist (see below!), get in my “Jamie Zone” and have an incredible run. Here is a beautiful pic from one of these epic runs:
Even though the marathon is over, I’m still doing semi-long runs on Saturdays to prep for a 10 miler in May. And I’m slipping into my Saturday routine, as we speak! Hopefully the new routine will involve blogging rather than watching Brenda and Dylan break up over and over again. And while I know it’s okay to relax on weekends, I’m going to cut back on the pre-run procrastination. I just ran a marathon, and I can do anything: self-doubt is a non-issue! So if you’re reading this and doing a little procrastination of your own, download some of the songs included below and go on your run, get to the gym, climb on your bike, etc. π (but if you stay on the couch a little longer, I won’t tell)
**Update: After writing this post, Jamie promptly moved from her desk to the couch, watched tv for 2 hours, cleaned for 10 minutes, walked to Dunkin Donuts, drank her coffee….and finally went for the run at 1 PM.
My Kick A** Marathon Playlist
There is no way I could power through just under 4 hours of running without a ridiculously awesome playlist. This playlist reflects my personality completely: it is random, dramatic, hilarious, eclectic and yet strangely motivating :-). From Rascal Flatts to Kanye West to 112, I’ve got it all. Since I know some of you are running in the More/Fitness Magazine Half Marathon tomorrow, thought I’d provide in case you wanted to make some last minute downloads. Hope you find some hidden song treasures. (Warning – some lyrics are explicit – what can I say? The hardcore s*** really gets me going!) Question: Do you pre-run procrastinate? What’s your routine?
ummmm i’m pretty sure we have the exact same ipod. LOVE the playlist & seriously i can not tell you how much time i waste/putter around my apartment before heading out, always wondering whether or not i’ll be able to do the run! have a great weekend! xoxoxox
haha I’m glad you like my taste in music! Good to know I’m not the only person to pre-run procrastinate!
I love your playlist! I can’t believe my ipod doesn’t work and I’ve been working out with no music for such a long time. Sometimes when I’m near my computer I’ll put pandora on but other than that it’s been me, my thoughts and a lot of sweaty workouts.
That’s amazing! My iPod almost ran out of battery during my run yesterday, and I was so worried! haha. I’m sure you’re getting in a lot of good thinking during those workouts. I do my best thinking during runs…but for some reason, I need my music π
