Tonight, I was in the mood for something deep fried and delicious, so I broke out my deep fryer, threw in some chicken and had myself “a little bit of chicken fried…“
JUST KIDDING. This is a Sometimes Healthy Living blog, and while I’d never shun those with their very own deep fryer, I certainly won’t be hopping on that bandwagon any time soon.
Anyway, I’ll keep this post short (first time for everything), because I’m trying to catch the end of the Voice get to bed early! Today was a typical Tuesday. And by typical, I mean extremely chaotic.
Tumultuous Tuesdays
We all spend so much time complaining about “Manic Mondays” that we forgot about the craziness that makes up Tuesdays. In my Sometimes Healthy opinion, most of us in Corporate America are on the same page when Monday rolls around. We cautiously ease into our ever-growing to-do lists, as we simultaneously try to pace ourselves for another 4 days of madness. In other words, Mondays are for procrastinating. Tuesday, for lack of a better phrase, the s*** hits the fan. We realize we can no longer put off all the work we set aside on Monday, and all of a sudden, the craziness ensues. At least, that’s how it generally goes for this Sometimes Healthy Girl.
And this Tuesday was no different. At certain times, I felt an adrenaline rush from all of the exciting projects on the horizon this July, but at other times, I felt completely overwhelmed and unsure of how it will all get done. It was the typical Tuesday roller coaster.
By the time I left work at 8:30, I wasn’t even sure if I could eke out my Lazy Girls Workout, even with The Voice Finale as my entertainment.
I was ready to get in some much-needed bonding time with the couch monster and perhaps a 1 LB bag of pretzels (dipped in cream cheese, of course, because that’s how I roll).
But then, as I walked to the subway and listened to my Rascal Flatts Pandora station (never lets me down), a little song came on that never fails to make me smile: Zac Brown Band’s Chicken Fried
(couldn’t embed the real video, so click here for the actual music video)
I swear, every time I hear the words of the chorus, I can’t help but smile:
“And a little bit of chicken fried
Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up”
It’s just a feel-good song. Doesn’t run too deep, but sometimes it’s nice to embrace that light-hearted mentality, especially in a high-strung city known as Manhattan. I don’t even LIKE fried chicken, but the song’s melody and message of appreciating the simple things in life never fail to put me in a good mood.
Once I heard the song, I knew I was heading straight to the gym. So ironically, fried chicken motivated me to workout tonight. Go figure 😉
Now It’s Your Turn
Last week, I talked about life theme songs – this week it’s “feel-good” songs.
What song always brings a smile to your face? Or motivates you to do something you don’t feel like doing? Tell me so I can add them to my feel-good playlist!
Right now – for some reason – I’m obsessed with Foster the People’s “Pumped Up Kicks”. It just makes me smile and want to dance around. If you haven’t heard it already, check it out 🙂
I’ll check it out tonight and I’m sure I’ll love it!
I completely agree, Tuesdays are always overlooked! Monday flies by, and before you know it, it’s Tuesday. Unlike Wednesday, it’s not a “hUmP” day where everything is downhill from there. Nope, you are basically still beginning your week. Back in Texas, there were always “Taco Tuesdays,” in which tacos were discounted. I didn’t think much of it – but perhaps some smart restaurant owner was aware how manic TUESDAYS are, and decided to make the day a little better with some good ole’ tacos. Boo Tuesdays! Favorite pick me up song? “Stand” by Rascal Flatts.
Oh I LOVEEEEE Stand. It’s on my Marathon Playlist like 6 times haha. Let’s start some Taco Tuesdays up in this joint. Tacos make everything better 🙂
I know I have said this before but Rascal Flatts songs! They make me so happy and consistently bring a smile to my face 🙂
Favorites: Cool Thing, God Bless the Broken Road, Love To Love You Out Loud, Fast Cars and Freedom, Life Is A Highway… There are so many more but these are my top picks at the moment!
Never heard Cool Thing. If it’s Rascal Flatts, it’s a given that I’ll love it, so I will download ASAP.
Tessa- totally agree, Rascal Flatts are great- Love you out Loud is a good one or Everyday Love! I have to say, American Girl by Carrie Underwood or anything by Taylor Swift puts a smile on my face.
I Love Love “Love to Love you Out Loud” – that’s going on the playlist!
I used to eat pretzels and cream cheese all the time in college! Pretty much any music gets me in a pumped up mood- lately I’ve been feeling the 90’s pop station on Pandora- the throwbacks really make me smile!
Ohhh it makes me so happy when I find people that dip pretzels in cream cheese. I thought I was all alone in this world ;-). 90’s pop station? Sounds great! Will check it out ASAP.
I am loving ‘You Lie’ by The Band Perry…I am always belting out that song when it comes on the radio. A few of my other ‘pump me up’ songs include Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep’, Rilo Kiley’s ‘Portion for Foxes’, and anything by Mumford and Sons. Oh, and I just downloaded ‘More’ by Usher to help me get through my long runs this week:-)
Adele is the JAM. She always gets me going. I’m not an angry person but that song awakens my little anger!
Jump! By the Pointer Sisters. It makes me think of my favorite scene in Love, Actually, one of the best movies ever.
I know exactly what scene you’re talking about. I have it on my playlists too because it reminds me of that exact scene. It’s one of my fave parts of the movie.
The Devil Went Down To Georgia~always pumps me up 🙂 Oh, and Michael Jackson’s~The Way You Make Me Feel
ummmm both excellent choices. Have you seen Center Stage? The Way You Make Me Feel is the song that plays at the end during the performance. Love it!
Champagne – by Cavo
It’s rocking and just makes me wanna move.
Yet another song I’ve never heard! Puttin’ it on that list of mine 🙂 Thanks!!
Just came across your blog and i think it is great! Cant wait to keep reading!
PS Beyonce’s new song “Best I Never Had” gets me going lately!
Oh thank you so much for reading!! I have never heard “Best I Never Had.” I’ll definitely listen to it!
